VIDEO UPDATE & on TV & what's new! [23rd Oct 11] Comments (9)

What's the best thing about being back home you ask? Sleeping for more than 3 hours at a time, especially in a bed that can’t sink, doesn't move, and isn't beside a window overlooking incoming icebergs or polar bears. Bliss…
Meanwhile, back in Cambridge Bay, Teleport is now in the icy clutches of winter, with the temperature at a chilly -11 deg at the moment, and heading for -20 deg C by Friday. The bay has already frozen over, and Teleport's been dragged a little higher up the hill out of r...READ MORE >> |

Well who'd have thunk it? Certainly not that dingy salesman back in Vancouver who told us last year (when his laughter subsided) that "What do two little Aussies know about ice?". Here we are, safe and sound, in Cambridge Bay, Victoria Island in the Canadian Arctic – stage 2 of our adventure complete, and none too soon!
We sent the last update tucked away in that little anchorage in SE Victoria Island, and the next day we up-anchored early and - using every hour of the rapidly reducing daylig...READ MORE >> |
Jess's Update [29th Aug 11] Comments (25)

Hey everyone! Jess here – I've amazingly wrestled the laptop off Chris for this update, to let you all know some of the finer details of life aboard Teleport – the real story! Our days now left aboard are numbered, we've just anchored in a little bay on the SE coast of Victoria Island – and we're very proud, relieved and excited to be here, almost at the end of our final leg for this season. We've only a mere 90 miles left along the coast until we reach Cambridge Bay, our final destination where...READ MORE >> |
Change of Plans! [26th Aug 11] Comments (11)

Hello Boys and Girls! Good to have you back again so soon! What with all the polar bears chewing things, crazy currents and winds, and not to mention a complete change of plans ahead, we figured another update was in order.
But before we get into all that, can we just say a big thank you to everyone who's been writing us messages online - we get them every day, and really enjoy reading them, and we're sorry that we haven't been able to reply to them for a while - a bit of a techie glitch in m...READ MORE >> |
Into the Northwest Passage, Bears, Killer Whales etc [22nd Aug 11] Comments (19)

Bleep... Bleep… Bleep… After 4 days and almost 400 miles at sea, our little position indicator on the GPS Chartplotter inched closer and closer to the words "The Northwestern Passages". And then we were there, sailing into the ever widening gap between the towering, glaciated mountains that rose out of the ice-scattered sea to meet us. Baffin Island - the Canadian Arctic. At long last, Jess and I were realising our dream - actually sailing the legendary Northwest Passage, aboard our little porta...READ MORE >> |
Up to Upernavik [11th Aug 11] Comments (20)

The cruising guide said "As you approach, openings in the ice front will appear". They didn't. The limitless huge icebergs - all grounded but slowly being muscled out to sea by those continually calving off the giant glacier way behind - formed one solid white mass blocking our approach to Ilulissat (Jakobshavn). Those furthest out eventually found water deep enough to float (300 feet+) and broke free, one by one sailing out towards the blue horizon in a ceaseless, slow-motion parade. Every minu...READ MORE >> |
On our way again, into the Arctic! [3rd Aug 11] Comments (19)

After spending 13 hectic days repairing everything while in Greenland's brightly painted and picturesque capital, Nuuk, we're thankfully on our way again at last, officially in the arctic now, with a fully-working engine and ready for more adventures!
You remember how the kindly policeman & customs chappie gave us a lift into town with that heavy old seized starter motor (it's a prehistoric ‘dynastart' actually), well that very afternoon when I called past the workshop, they'd already pulled...READ MORE >> |
