Karrimor

Karrimor (through Aktiv8, their Australian Outlet) is our largest sponsor company -they supplied us with over $4,000 worth of brand new Karrimor products, some of which are next years stock, not even released here in Australia yet. This amazing sponsorship deal included two ‘Independence’ hiking packs (Absolutely top of the range hiking packs, the best of Karrimor’s range, which is regarded by some as the best in the world), waterproof pack liners, bed-rolls, map-covers, a wide range of Karrimor clothing (incredibly specialized gear combining breathability, lightweight etc), including various shirts, thermals, shorts, and more.

Kathmandu

Kathmandu - a well respected hiking gear manufacturer also sponsored our hike. They provided us with 2x ‘Geneva Jackets’ (very high quality, very light Gore-Text jackets), 2x ‘Force 10 jackets’ (performance fleece, light, warm, ‘WindStopper’ fabric), with a retail value of over $1,600. These 'Force 10 Jackets' kept us snug & warm every day, and the 'Geneva Jackets' kept us dry, without both of these pieces of clothing, the adventure would have been bitterly cold, and miserably wet.

Australian Geographic

The Australian Geographic Society sponsored our expedition, giving us $1,000 to buy a brand new Canon EOS 300V SLR camera, two lenses, various filters etc. This is a fantastic camera performed brilliantly, and we were very happy with the results - take a look at the 'Photographs' section of this webpage. Also, the Australian Geographic Society is hosting a public lecture / slide presentation on our adventure.

Outermark

OuterMark - This hiking / outdoor company generously provided us with 2x graphite (carbon fibre) ‘Wilderness’ fishing rods especially designed for hiking - very light, 6 foot 6, but breaks into 5 sections. In addition to this, Outermark also gave us two small, light ‘Topaz’ fishing reels for the rod, and a fishing pouch each, with a retail value of over $500. We were amazed at how durable yet lightweight these Wilderness fishing rods were. We had them strapped on the back of our packs, in the same location as I had a camera tripod. This metal camera tripod got torn apart and mangled in 3 days of pushing though scrub - we arranged for a new tripod to be included into our next air-drop of supplies. This new tripod also became mangled in a matter of days - while both our Outermark fishing rods endured the same horrific scrub, yet came though totally unscathed!

EPIRB Hire

EPIRBHire.com.au in Sydney very generously offered us the free loan of the latest 406 MHz EPIRB, with a built in GPS. These are detected much faster than the 121.5 MHz, and transmit our exact position to emergency services, within 3 min, greatly simplifying their task in the unlikely event of a rescue. We took this EPIRB with us, and it brought much comfort and peace of mind. We shared the EPIRB and the Satellite mobile phone between us, and it was reassuring to know that even if we lost one of our packs, we'd still have one highly efficient means by which to call in a rescue party.
