Chris and I have bought a little wooden 29 foot junk-rig yacht called 'Teleport', and we've registed her as an Australian vessel, homeport: Sydney. The problem is, she's in Halifax, Canada - that'd be the 'wrong side' of Canada.
This problem is complicated further by Chris and I being adventurers at heart, and the idea of sailing her home the 'normal' way down to the balmly Carribean Sea, through Panama and across the tropical Pacific Ocean sounds, well, a bit tame. So instead, we've decided to sail her home up the coast of Greenland, over the top of Canada, through the bitter Northwest Passage, across to Alaska.
Chris and I spent three months in Canada this year on what was suppose to be kitting out Teleport with safety equipment, check a few systems and teaching me how to sail by sailing 500 nautical miles up the coast of Canada. However when we arrived in Halifax the yacht was in a lot worse condition then what we ever could have imagined - three months of sailing turned into three months of yacht building! We managed to fit in two weeks of hectic sea trials, with 40Kn winds, huge breaking waves into the cockpit and engine problems and of cause this was my first sailing experience! www.YachtTeleport.com
My boyfriend Chris and I spent 3 weeks cycling 1,600 km around much of New Zealand’s stunning South Island. Starting in Dunedin we cycled down to Bluff, went out to Stewart Island off the bottom, over to Lake Ta Anau and up to Queenstown, along the West Coast up to Greymouth, and then back across to Christchurch via the impossibly steep Arthurs Pass. Amazing scenery!
Spent two weeks in New Zealand’s South Island tramping some of the most beautiful wilderness!
Cycling 1300km around Tasmania was our first taste of ‘Cycle touring’ – we literally put our bikes in a card boardbox, packed as little as possible and jumped on a flight to Hobart. From there we spent 18 days cycling right around, enjoying all the breathtaking views, gourmet food and wine (guilt free, as we were just burning off all the kgs added at each cheese and chocolate factory!). We had an unforgettable time. Maria Island, Wineglass Bay, Bay of Fires, North coast, Tarkine, Strahan, Mount Field..
