We just got back from running our 'Photographers Dream' – A 5 day photographic safari down the East Coast of Tasmania complete with every mode of transport one could conceive, enabling the very best photographic opportunities. We hired helicopter flights over the bay of fires, a sea cruise around Schouten Island (Freycinet National Park), light aircraft flights over wineglass bay and beautiful walks to the painted and fossil cliffs on Maria Island. All of these exciting activities accompanied by fresh Tasmanian produce (if not a little too much at the best of times) such as crayfish, oysters, prawns, Tassie wine and beer.
Jess and I were exceptionally lucky to have such a motivated (which can be a little hard during the 6 AM sunrise shoots) and enthusiastic group of photographers. Everyone was so positive and encouraging towards one another that it really felt like one huge family by the end of the six days. Funnily enough we actually had a representative from almost every state in Australia.
Tassie put on a fantastic show – every day was just as beautiful and picture perfect as the next... The lovely early morning sunrise lit up the orange lichen rocks as if on fire (pardon the pun), the sunlight on the water during the scenic flight exaggerated the stunning turquoise waters below and the most memorable moment of the trip was seeing, interacting and photographing a pod of perhaps as many as 1,000 dolphins that came to play during our wildlife sea cruise - jumping out of the water right next to the boat, with more jumping as far out to the horizon as we could see!
Those with canon cameras really enjoyed being able to use the four macro lenses and four wide angle lenses we brought, and even our die-hard Nikon fan ended up borrowing a Canon camera to use the lenses, opening up an entire new world of photography!
The East Coast Tasmanian Safari was such as success and pleasure to run that Jess and I have decided to do it all over again in November! Tasmanian Photo Safari Bookings are now open!
Check out what the participants thought of the trip:
