Chris Bray is an award-winning Australian Geographic photographer and photography teacher running highly acclaimed 1 day photography courses in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra, as well as photo safaris to Kenya, Tasmania and more. Canon's Ambassador for digital photography in Australia as well as their online tutorial host, Chris is also a Lowepro Ambassador, photography competition judge (Canon's 'Photo5' and QORF's 'It's better outdoors') and photography presenter on TV. An adventurer at heart, Chris grew up sailing around the world with his family for five years, and later honed his photography skills in some of the most demanding & inspiring environments on Earth during unsupported world first expeditions across the largely unexplored Victoria Island in the Arctic (hiding from polar bears and being chased by wolves), trips to Antarctica, an Australian Geographic assignment to Papua New Guinea (the first photographer they've ever sent overseas), sailing across the Southern Ocean (including 1000+ miles via celestial navigation for his YachtMaster qualification), hiking the Tasmanian wilderness (Australian Geographic Society's Adventure of the Year 2004), and cycling Tasmania and New Zealand.

Chris Bray is a Trustee of the Australian Geographic Society (elected Jan 2011) and Chairman of the Australian and New Zealand chapter of the prestigious international 'Explorers Club' based in New York. A member of the society for Human Performance in Extreme Environments, Chris is also an effective speaker having presented numerous lectures to audiences ranging from schools and universities to public lecture tours and corporate clients. On the writing side of things, Chris has written many articles for a variety of outdoor and photography magazines (see below) some even translated internationally, and he is also a successful author, having recently published his first book 'The 1000 Hour Day' about his mate Clark Carter and his four year expedition to become the first people to walk across Victoria Island in the Canadian Arctic.

Having started his first business when he was just 16 (BlackJackal.com - retailing electronics online), Chris performed well academically - coming 'dux'/'first' of both Primary and High Schools earning him a UAI of 99.2% and a five year scholarship to study Electrical Engineering at UNSW, which he completed in 2006 with first class honours and awards in Leadership and Project Management. Chris is now Director of ChrisBray.net Pty Ltd, and he and his partner Jess Taunton are self-employed and living their dream, combining their two main passions of photography and adventure. When not running 1 day photography courses or photo safaris, they are busy sailing their 29 foot junk-rig yacht Teleport home to Australia, over the top of Canada through the infamous Northwest Passage in the Arctic.
