This weekend I was fortunate enough to be a part of The Brisbane Writers Festival, flying up on Friday afternoon with Jess, and staying at the Mantra - quite a classy hotel in Southbank by the river.

Following an evening of randomly bumping into good friends in the street and sampling various beers at various venues, and sitting in on some fascinating talks and discussions at the BWF, we called it a day and got some sleep, ready for Saturday.

Saturday I started with hosting a 90-minute workshop entitled 'Blogging from remote corners of the world' where I basically explained the technology, software, hardware etc allowing people to connect to the net from anywhere on earth, and then went on to discuss blogging in general, with some tips and tricks, and eventually signing everyone up to blogger.com which seems to me to be the best free option out there.

During the afternoon I sat on a discussion panel entitled 'Adventure: Moving on from boy scouts' with two others, Andrew Westoll (Author, 'Riverbones' - Stumbling after eden in the jungles of Suriname), and Garry Weare (Lonely Planet author, and author of 'A long walk in the Himalaya' and director of the Australian Himalayan Foundation). It was a great chat session, debating various questions from the good ol' 'why adventure' through to our thoughts on sustainable eco-tourism, the importance of adventure and what our most indispensible item when hiking would be (iPod for sure!)

It was a great weekend, and just such a wonderful opportunity to mingle with and hear an eclectic group of talented, experienced people from all facets of writing.

Sunday morning saw Jess and I back home in Sydney, out for a morning kayak across to Pearl Beach for coffee (iced chai late actually, it felt like the first day of summer today! Bring it on!)

Saturday was
