This is just a quick post to congratulate William Arlidge, a 23 year old marine biologist from New Zealand, for becoming the 'Our World-Underwater Scholarship Australasian Rolex Scholar' for 2010/11! Today I went to say Hi to Jessica Watson, the amazingly inspirational girl who's just about to set off to try and become the youngest person ever to sail single handed, nonstop around the world. "Wow..." Our raised eyebrows said it all. To our great surprise, after digging out our old 2005 arctic expedition home-made aluminium wheeled kayaks from under the house and putting them in the water at Pittwater last week - not only did they float, but they barely even leaked! This weekend I was fortunate enough to be a part of The Brisbane Writers Festival, flying up on Friday afternoon with Jess, and staying at the Mantra - quite a classy hotel in Southbank by the river.
